There are some key ethical factors and social issues related to donor egg IVF in postmenopausal women. In general, you may find three primary objections related to this treatment: a) the physical risk towards the older women while pregnant, b) the legal rights of the children born to older women, and c) using scarce healthcare resources that may deny more youthful patients of treatment.
Other conditions that have been elevated against treating older patients include the views of egg donors about using their oocytes for the treatment of older women, and the mental effect of having a baby beyond the age of 50 that is unknown at present.
Those who are in support of treating older patients argue that, by careful selection of patients, the risk of complications is reduced to a minimum and many older women who want kids are quite prepared to accept a small risk of complications. There is also an argument about a definition of what constitutes an advanced maternal age, especially because the life expectancy of both women and men has increased significantly.
