A detailed assessment of both the women and her baby’s progress should be made regularly within the first couple of days following the birth. Because they grow in confidence, midwifery input could be progressively withdrawn to allow the new parents to help develop their parenting skills. Parents will face occasions when they have to assess if their baby’s conduct is at normal limits. All of them need to be equipped with the required skills and confidence to understand when their baby is well and thriving or when you should seek specialist help.
