Most babies initiate feeding right after birth. How and what they will be given would be the mother’s choice, which is affected by a variety of cultural, social, and practical issues. However, for many babies, breastfeeding is easily the most appropriate type of diet, supplying all nutritive needs until 6 month of age. A midwife’s role would be to enable a woman to make the right choice of feeding way of her and her baby, and also to enable her and support her in that choice. This requires giving appropriate, factual information and practical guidance regarding how to feed the infant.
